Step 1

There are mainly 6 beliefs on which the Islamic religion is based, also known as The Six Articles of Faith.

These are the core beliefs every Muslim holds, They are Belief in

  1. the Oneness of God (Allah),
  2. His angels,
  3. His revealed books,
  4. His prophets,
  5. The Day of Judgment,
  6. Divine decree.

The first step to embracing Islam is through the Shahada, the declaration of faith, which states: ‘I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Once you accept the core beliefs, these are the only 5 primary acts of worship obligatory for every Muslim, known as The Five Pillars of Islam. They are: the 

  1. Shahada (keeping this Faith in your heart, that there is only One God Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is the last Messenger and Prophet)
  2. 5 Prayers (Salah) Daily.
  3. Fasting (Sawm) from dawn to sunset in the month of Ramadan, Annually.
  4. Charity (Zakat) of 2.5% on saved wealth Annually if Eligible, Annually. 
  5. Pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah  for those who are able, Once in a lifetime.

2. Do Muslims believe in the 10 Commandments?

Yes. The moral principles of the Ten Commandments are affirmed in the Quran. Islam commands belief in one God, honors parents, and prohibits murder, theft, and false testimony, viewing them as part of God's universal law.

3. What are the easiest surahs for beginners to memorize?

Surah Al-Kawthar (only 3 verses) and Surah Al-Ikhlās (only 4 verses) are among the shortest chapters in the Qur’an. Surah Al-Fātiḥah, though a little longer (7 verses), is the most important because it must be recited every time Muslims pray the five daily prayers (Ṣalāh).

It is how you become a Muslim. By sincerely reciting the Shahada, you are declaring your faith in the oneness of God (Tawhid) and the prophethood of Muhammad, thereby entering the fold of Islam. You can say it in your heart or out loud in a gathering, in English, Arabic, or any other language; it's all the same, and there are no issues whatsoever. The important thing is your intention that you truly believe in the oneness of God, Allah, and the Prophet hood of Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Quran commands worshipping God alone, being honest, praying, giving to charity, being good to parents, and forbids murder, theft, adultery, and injustice. These rules form the basis of Islamic law and morality.
